This was a plain white melamine chest of drawers originally bought by my parents for the birth of my sister in 1978. When I moved to Brighton in 1999 they gave it to me for my flat. I didn't like it plain so in 2000 I collaged it with pictures of shoes cut from magazines, stuck to sticky-backed plastic.

The coloured panels are sticky-backed holographic paper. The (now tatty) mirror mosaic round the edges is pieces cut from a bag of mirrored plastic discs I bought from Hanningtons when they were selling off their fixtures and fittings just before they closed.

When you want to break it gently to Mom and Dad that they can forget about grandchildren, just ask for a piece of snowy-white furniture! They'll take the hint.

This 5-Drawer Chest with its pure black finish has simple and elegant lines. The transitional lines are soften by the decorative kick plate.
